Somali One Team

Somali One organization has Eight Full staff : 3 internationals and 5 local staff who have different skills and experiences.

Abdifatah Bashir
Abdifatah Bashir

Executive Director

Abdifatah Bashir is the executive director of Somali One. Mr. Bashir is expert in private sector development, governance and civic education, local government. He has previously worked as a senior consultant with IFC/World Bank on public private dialogue and has participated in strengthening capacity of Somali Chamber of commerce and industry, counterparts Ministries in Federal Government Somalia

including Ministry of commerce and industry, Ministry of fishery and Telecommunication and helped the formation of working groups in these sector. Expert in business development and private sector reform and institution building as well as program development.

He has previously worked with other international organization providing support on democratization in Somalia including the Oslo center for Peace and Human rights, National Democratic Institute and International republican Institute under BUILD project. He holds bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Mohamed abdirizak
Mohamed Abdirizak

Senior Advisor

Mohamed Abdirizak is senior Advisor for Somali and a board member, he comes with extensive knowledge. Mr. Abdirizak was the Resident Country Director (2010 -2014) for the National Democratic Institute for Somalia. He has worked vigorously to promote unity and stability in Somalia since 2007.

Prior to joining NDI, he served as a Political Advisor to the Special Representative of the Secretary General at United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS).

From 2007 -2008 Mr. Abdirizak served as an advisor and Chief of Staff to the President of Somalia. He played an active role in the Djibouti Peace Process where an Agreement was signed in August 2008. Since then he has been involved in the international initiatives to re-establish the government and promote peace and security in Somalia. He has shown great leadership in facilitating discussions and negotiations of the Joint Security Committee and the High Level Committee to promote peace and security for Somalia.

Mr. Abdirizak is highly regarded among his Somali colleagues as well as the diplomatic community working on Somalia for his leadership and ability to forge ties between various political and regional actors and opposition members in the country and in the Diaspora.

Prior to working with the TFG and UNPOS, Mr. Abdirizak worked with private sector firms in the United States and with international organizations including UNDP Somalia and the World Bank.
Mohamed Abdirizak received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from N.W.F.P Agricultural University in Pakistan. He earned a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

Abdisitar Moalim
Abdisitar Moalim

Program Coordinator

Abdisitar Moalim serves as Program Coordinator for Somali one. Moalim comes with diverse experience and has qualification from Mount Kenya University in community development. He also good in community mobilization, sensitization and networking, coupled with research and development.

Mahat
Mr Mahat

Program Officer

Mahat is Somali One project officer based in Somalia , he comes with vast knowledge in the filed of Agriculture, food security and Livelihoods for more than ten years and holds diploma in animal production from Jomo Kenyatta University Of Agriculture and Technology. He previously worked with DRC as livelihood officer for ECHO project on cash grants.

He worked with VSF-SUISSE as fodder technician in animal production programs, he also worked with other international organization working in Somalia such ADESO, FAO funded project and UNOCHA funded project. Mr Mahat is also experienced in formulating local farmers cooperatives in Somalia.

Edward kakumu
Edward Kakumu

Senior Governance Advisor

Edward kakumu is a social science practitioner of international relations with nine years proficiency working on democracy and governance related programs. He has good experience in the diplomatic etiquette, public relations, political development cooperation. He previously worked for National Democratic Institute(NDI) successfully steering the completion of over 350 workshops and trainings.

He also previously consulted on the field of research with Wasafiri on evaluating NIWETU program in Isiolo, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Nairobi around countering violent extremism and has focus in Focus group research, opinion Polls and key informant interviews

Muktar Wardere
Muktar Wardere

Head of Governance Programs

Muktar Wardere is head of Governance programs for Somali one and is highly skilled and goal oriented professional with extensive experience and knowledge on governance and programs. Mr. Mukhtar Holds MBA from Kenyatta university and Bachelor of Arts in Development studies from Kampala International University in Uganda.

He has extensive experience previously worked at Norwegian Refugee Council as head of office program in Gedo area Somalia, as also a BRCiS consortium coordinator and further as a deputy head of office program in Dollow. Has also worked with Islamic Relief as a livelihood micro-enterprise management officer. Mr. Mukhtar has extensive experience in carrying out community dialogues, supervision of livelihood projects.

Ismahan
Ms Ismahan

Program Liaison Officer.

Ismahan is Somali One program liaison officer based in Somalia, she comes with vast knowledge in the field of communication, community mobilization and gender affairs for more than five years and holds degree in International studies specialized in International relations and diplomacy from the University of Nairobi.

She previously worked with NEEDO as a communication officer for ‘Changeeni Raslimali’ project funded project by UKAID. She worked with RACIDA as a Gender and Inclusion officer. Ms Ismahan is also experienced in community mobilization and handling gender and inclusivity affairs.
